Ms. Betty Ogwaro MP

Betty Achan Ogwaro is a Member of Parliament in the Government of South Sudan. She is deputy Chair of the Specialised Parliamentary Committee for Constituency Development Fund. She served on the Specialised Committee for Gender and Social Welfare (2005-2007). Ms. Ogwaro was a Minister of Agriculture in Eastern Equatoria State of the Sudan (2007-2010).  She is chairperson of the Southern Sudanese Women’s Parliamentarian Caucus which is advancing the participation of Sudanese women in politics and decision making.

She is also the Chairperson for Southern Sudanese Women Peace Forum, a network of several civil society organizations work on Peace initiatives. In 2006 she was appointed in the Mediation Team headed by Vice President of the Government of South Sudan, to negotiate a peaceful settlement between the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) and the Government of Uganda - the first woman to challenge the top leadership of LRA face to face of their atrocities and heartless killings.

She headed the office of the Sudanese People Liberation Movement (SPLM) in the West Midlands. She worked for a short time as a Consultant to UNIFEM on Women issues (2005).  Ms Ogwaro founded “Windows for Sudan” (1999) a non-governmental organization striving to advance the status of Sudanese women and promoting their participation in development.  

Ms. Ogwaro is a well known activist on women, peace, and environment.

Dr. Oshita Oshita

Dr. Oshita O. Oshita is the Director of Research and Policy Analysis at the Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution (IPCR), Abuja, Nigeria. He belongs to many professional associations, including the British International Studies Association (BISA), the Network for African Peace-builders, Nigerian Philosophical Association, and he is 2nd Vice-President of the Society for Peace Studies and Practice (SPSP), Nigeria. His current research interests are in peace-building, the nexus of peace-security-conflict and development, resource conflicts, systems design for conflict prevention, conflict-sensitive planning and policy programming.

Dr. Oshita was elected into the Federal House of Representatives of Nigeria in 1992. He has lectured in various universities in Nigeria and overseas. He is a professional trainer and enjoys training and facilitating workshops.
