Mr. Xavier Baeselen MP
Mr. Baeselen has been the Liberal Deputy (MR) from Bruxelles-Hal-Vilvorde’s county since 20th March 2008, replacing Mr. Bernard Clerfayt, Secretary of State. Mr. Baeselen was born in Brussels in 1972 and graduated with a degree in criminology. He is a high school and university Associate Professor and the Political Secretary for the MR group in the House of Representatives. Mr. Baeselen is also currently the Finance, Population and Information Technology Councillor of Watermael-Boitsfort.
Mr. Tony Baldry MP
Mr. Baldry is Member of Parliament for North Oxfordshire. Educated at Leighton Park, University of Sussex, and Lincoln's Inn, Mr. Baldry has been an MP since 1983. He held various ministerial posts from 1990 until the last General Election, serving as Minister of State in the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food from 1995-97. A practising barrister, Mr. Baldry was awarded the Robert Schumann Silver Medal for contribution to European politics in 1975. He takes a keen interest in foreign affairs, and is a Governor of the Commonwealth Institute and on the Council of the Overseas Development Institute and Chatham House. Mr. Baldry was Chairman of the House of Commons Select Committee on International Development in the last Parliament.
Ms. Shukria Barakzai, MP
Ms. Shukria Barakzai is a parliamentarian and a women rights activist in Afghanistan. After she was beaten on the streets of Kabul by the Taliban militants for being outdoors without a man, she became a women rights activist. She first founded a clandestine school for girls and later when the Taliban forces were ousted from Kabul, Aina-E-Zan (“Women’s Mirror”) a national weekly newspaper which informs women in Afghanistan about the recent developments in health care, education and civil society. Ms, Barakzai is an outspoken critic of child marriages, forced marriages and home violence towards women. In 2003 she was appointed a member of loya jirga, a representative body convened to discuss the Constitution of Afghanistan. In 2004 she was elected a member of the Lower House of the Afghanistan Parliament. Her outstanding public service has also received recognition outside Afghanistan. She was named the International Editor of the Year by the World Press Review in 2004 and a Woman of the Year by the BBC radio program Woman’s Hour. She holds a degree in geology and archaeology from the University in Kabul.
Ms. Petra Bayr MP
Born in 1968 in Vienna, Ms. Bayr studied sociology and pedagogy at the University of Vienna. Ms. Bayr was very active in the youth and women’s section of her party, as well as the youth council of Austria. She also held the position of Chair of “Young Generation” of the SPÖ Vienna and was member of the Executive Board of the SPÖ Vienna. From 1996-2002 she was member of the Vienna City Council, focused on environment, urban planning and inclusion of people with disabilities.
Ms. Bayr is member of the Austrian Parliament since 2002. She is SPÖ spokesperson for development and since 2007, spokesperson for environment and global development. In addition, Ms. Bayr is deputy chair of SPÖ Women’s Organisation in Vienna. In the European Parliamentary Forum, Ms. Bays is member of the Executive Committee. Since 2010 he serves as board member of Globe Europe.
Ms. Angelika Beer
Ms. Beer is a German former member of the European Parliament. She is also a former member of the German Bundestag, was head of the Green Party in Germany, and held the position of Coordinator of the international campaign against land mines for Medico International. She was a member of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, and remains active in various other organizations including the Berlin Information Centre for Transatlantic Security and sits on the advisory board of the Forum for Civil Peace Service.
Ms. Juliette Boulet MP
Ms. Boulet is one of the youngest members of the Belgian Federal Parliament and an active member of the Federation of Young European Greens. Alongside her environmental engagement, Ms. Boulet also has a strong interest in the issues of refugees and migration. Passionate about the Middle-East, Ms. Boulet has been particularly engaged in Palestine and Afghanistan.
Ms. Emine Bozkurt MEP
Ms. Bozkurt has been a Member of the European Parliament since 2004. She holds the position of Chairwoman of the Delegation for relations with the countries of Central America. She is an active participant on several key committees and delegations including the Conference of Delegation Chairs; Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs; Committee on Women's Rights and Gender Equality and the Delegation to the Euro-Latin American Parliamentary Assembly. Ms Bozkurt is a Labour Party member and has been a Member of the PvdA European policy advisory committee since 1999.
Dr. Franziska Katharina Brantner MEP
Dr. Franziska Katharina Brantner is a German politician and a member of the European Parliament. She is the spokesperson for foreign affairs of the Group of the Greens.
Dr. Brantner graduated from the Institut d'Etudes Politiques, in Paris in 2004 with a Diplôme des Sciences Politiques. She then obtained a Master of International Affairs from the School of Public and International Affairs of the Columbia University in New York. She went on to be a consultant for the United Nations Development Fund for Women and the European Council on Foreign Relations. She was also research assistant for the European Studies Centre, Oxford University and a Project Manager for the Bertelsmann Foundation in Brussels.
Dr. Brantner is a member of the Committee on Foreign Affairs and of the Delegation for relations with Israel. She is also a substitute for the Subcommittee on Security and Defence and the Delegation for relations with Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Montenegro and Kosovo.
Mr. André Brie
Mr. Brie is a German politician and former Member of the European Parliament (Party of Democratic Socialism, part of the European Left) from 1999-2009. He sat on the European Parliament’s Committee on Foreign Affairs and was also a substitute for the Committee on Petitions and the Committee on the Internal Market and Consumer Protection. Outside Parliament he is a member of the PDS regional party council in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.
Mr. Elmar Brok MEP
Mr. Brok is a Member of the European Parliament for the German Christian Democratic Party (CDU). He has been in office since 1980 and is currently a member of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, a substitute member of the Constitutional Affairs Committee and a member of the delegation for relations with the United States. Mr. Brok is the foreign affairs co-ordinator of the European People's Party (EPP) and member of the EPP-bureau. He was the Parliament's main Rapporteur on Enlargement and is today Rapporteur for the EU's enlargement strategy and the European Diplomatic Action Service. During the intergovernmental conferences on the Lisbon Treaty as well as for the Treaty of Amsterdam, the Treaty of Nice and the EU Constitution he was the European Parliament's representative.
