Mr. Leinen has been a member of the European Parliament for the Socialist Group since 1999. He is chairman of the EP`s constitutional affairs committee and substitute member of the Committee for Foreign Affairs. Furthermore he is a member of the delegation for the relations with South Asia and of the delegation for relations with India. From 1985-1994 he was Minister for environment in the German state of Saarland.
